MORE THAN half of workers polled for a Monster.com survey said they would make work more of a priority in 2011. And 42% of surveyors were hopeful about the New Year in relation to their work life.
The numbers aren’t perfect, but they are looking up. So, what to do with all this optimism?
Four words: Take Advantage. Take Responsibility.
Let’s face it. New Year’s resolutions don’t last forever. Why’s that? Because when faced with obstacles, doubts or the reality of life, that optimism begins to grow fainter and fainter.
UNLESS….
What if those optimistic workers had someone come alongside them to spur them on?
Someone to give them a kick in the tush at that moment when the others doubt their capabilities, motivations or resources. Someone to help them think outside the box, someone to inspire confidence, someone to help them push past obstacles or someone to lend some resources.
Have you ever made a goal or resolution with someone else? Someone who could provide some accountability and visa versa?
We’re not asking you to be your employees’ best friend.
But, don’t let this optimism fall by the wayside. Have your employees create individual vision statements for themselves. Create one for yourself and share it with them.
Consider monthly goal sharing meetings, either in small groups or in individual settings. And when someone is falling short on a certain goal or plan, generate support and practical steps moving forward.
